Scope

The Award’s purpose is to promote most impactful doctoral student work, to provide the doctoral students with the exposure to the community and the prospective employers, and to support interaction between academia and industry in the field of test technology.

The Doctoral Student Contest

  • The contest is held in two stages: semi-finals and finals
  • The complete rules of the contest are found under http://www.tttc-events.org/tttc_website/index.php?section=awards_doctoral_thesis
  • North American semi-finals 2011 are held at VTS 2011. This is the only 2011 semi-finals with a deadline still open
  • The jury composed of university professors and industrial experts will determine the winner of the semi-finals
  • The winner will compete against other regional winners in the finals, held at ITC 2011
  • Both the student and the advisor of the winning work will be recognized

Eligibility

  • All active doctoral students working on test-related topics are eligible for the Award
  • An individual can only participate in the contest once in a lifetime
  • Participation is encouraged when the thesis is close to completion
  • Student must not have graduated before 2009. Postdocs who graduated 2009 or 2010 can participate
  • Submissions to multiple regional sites are prohibited

Submission Instructions

  • Prospective contestants must submit a summary of their thesis work (up to 2000 words), possibly accompanied by one additional page of figures and references.
  • See the Award homepage for more details
  • Submissions must include the names of the student, one advisor and start/end dates
  • Submissions will undergo a selection process
  • All submissions must be made through the VTS homepage http://tttc-vts.org/ (following the link for paper submission) before April 1 (extended)

The Semi-Finals

  • Selected contestants will be given a short (7-minute) presentation slot in a designated technical session
  • The winner selected by the jury will be announced at the VTS’s Social Event
